SEB Annual Conference

8th - 11th July 2025

Location: Antwerp, Belgium

Together with Pascal Touzet and Tom Theeuwen, we are organizing a session focus on cytoplasmic genetics at the SEB Annual Conference! An exciting lineup of speakers will present their latest findings covering various aspects of cytoplasmic genetic research.

Invited speakers

  • Talk synopsis:

Coevolution and subsequent incompatibility between the nuclear and organelle genomes is a potentially powerful mechanism of speciation. Using a combination of plastid genome sequences and RNAseq we investigated the underlying genetics of a strong cytonuclear incompatibility found in the herb Campanula americana, a species that exhibits rapid plastid genome evolution.

  • Talk synopsis:

Chloroplast and mitochondrial genomes can now be modified using TALEN-based genome editing technologies. This presentation will cover the latest advancements in organellar genome-targeted base editors and nucleases, highlighting their applications in basic biology and potential practical uses.

  • Talk synopsis:

This talk will discuss several points of regulation of the thylakoid protonmotive force, and in turn photosynthesis, and discuss the use of these regulatory points to engineer photosynthesis to meet increasing and changing agricultural and commercial demands.

We aim to offer an inclusive platform where a diverse group of researchers—including early-career scientists from various countries—can share their work and engage with peers. Join us and submit your abstract by 7th March for a chance to present in our session!
